Just Ask

A few days ago LutheranChik did this so I thought I'd try it too. I don't know if anybody actually reads this thing but if you do and you're curious about the guy writing then fire off a question. I just might answer. What do you want to know? Already know everything there is to know about me? Come and know me better.

Shalom

When you were in grade school, what did you think you'd be doing by the time you were 39?

If you had to choose the three very best books about Lutheran theology ,what would they be?

Okay, first LutheranChik. I'll see if I can narrow it down to three.

1. The Book of Concord. Luckily that includes the Small and Large Catechisms. As for the Augsburg Confession that's also contained in it, as my Church History prof kept pounding into our heads, "Article IV, Article IV, Article IV."

2. Baptized we Live, by Daniel Erlander. I know you know it. It's practically a comic book but it says things so well.

3. Lutheranism: The Theological Movement and Its Confessional Writings, by Eric W. Gritsch and Robert W. Jenson. It was assigned reading in seminary and they do a great job explaining things and drawing from various Lutheran writings.

4. I couldn't keep it to 3. Reclaiming the "L" Word: Renewing the Church from Its Lutheran Core, by Kelly A. Fryer. The first time I read it I became excited again about the possibilities of this religious churchy stuff.

detail boi (he ain't heavy, he's my brother),

1. I remember wanting to be an airline pilot and figuring I'd become rich and retire to some chalet in the Swiss Alps by around this time in my life. HAH! Not a pilot, not rich, no chalet, no retirement in sight.

2. Favourite food? Either ice cream or Doritos. Can't remember the first time I had ice cream. I remember I never wanted to try Doritos but one time Nadine came over to visit at our old house and she brought a bag and I tried them and I was hooked. Now my wife says if she wants me to try something new she should just get Nadine to get me to try it. You know she's starting her new call in Brampton in February?

3.i. I'd like to take my wife on a vacation to the British Isles sometime. I'd also like to go back to some of the places we visited in Europe on our family trip when I was 16.
3.ii. If I wasn't living and pastoring here, and if I didn't want to stay close to family, I've always thought about the mountains of West Virginia. It's beautiful there but I've only ever driven through on my way to South Carolina or Florida.

4. Most grateful for the love of my wife and family and that's why.

5. I don't like cleaning house. I don't have to do it much because my wife does most of that work but she needs my help and I feel like I should help and when she's doing it and I'm not I feel guilty, but I don't like doing it. I like a clean house but I don't like doing the work. Maybe because, with four kids in the house, it remains clean for such a short time.

6. There are lots of things I like doing. Veging in front of the TV watching a good movie or our DVDs of M*A*S*H, Quantum Leap, or various brit coms. I enjoy eating. I enjoy taking a 2 hour bath with a good book to read while I'm at it. I enjoy playing golf. I like just hanging out in the back yard in the shade of the big maple just reading or having good conversation. I like sitting around the campfire singing stupid songs or playing charades or 20 questions with my family and whoever else happens to be with us. Why? Oh, different reasons, too long to explain them all.
